Oski Mācipayin Affordable Housing

An affordable housing development that offers a new beginning.

Oski Mācipayin is a 26 unit townhouse community in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood. The name is Cree for ‘new beginnings’ and the project provides affordable rental housing options for individuals and families. Quint Development identified that most affordable rental options in Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods were one and two-bedroom units so Oski Mācipayin was conceived to meet the demand for larger units to house larger families. Of the 26 townhouse units, 18 are three and four-bedroom units, including two accessible units, and 8 one-bedroom suites. The development is now home to 30 adults and 61 children. On average each family includes four children, making them ineligible for smaller units based on occupancy standards. The development provides safe and reliable homes for these families who were previously marginalized. The units are organized around a central courtyard where the different family sizes and compositions come together to enjoy the shared amenities. A playground on the site serves the many children living in the community. The development is a safe and inclusive community for its residents and is changing the dynamic of the neighbourhood in a positive way.
