Hanson House
A house form created by a process of subtraction.
Hanson House is a modern adaptation of a traditional saltbox house. The design process became an exercise of subtraction, where deep voids are carved away from the singular form. The carved voids accommodate points of entry, balconies and skylights, while shallower cuts reveal windows and sections of flat panels where the tight metal skin is peeled away. The subtractions allow light and openness within the home while maintaining its robust mass.
